J. and I have been trying to get out for more walks recently – partly for exercise, but also partly because we recently discovered a really nice trail not too far from home, and it’s lovely to be out and about exploring.
Despite not being that far from home, it’s like entering into another world. The trail is a narrow corridor where all kinds of wildlife that we rarely see elsewhere lives. We’ve seen red-winged blackbirds, cardinals, bluejays, orioles, finches, huge fuzzy caterpillars, and a rabbit. There are also a few stands of gorgeous white and pink trilliums tucked away from the paths.
We regularly walk the paths close to home, which are nice, but we’ve never come close to seeing such diversity there. Here, there are fewer people, and a bit more cover, which seems to make for a nicer walk and a better habitat. But whatever the cause, it’s a lovely place to go and get away for a few hours.
